Not only is there no push to finish the declarations before the end of the year, it would be rather imprudent. In my experience, I've never seen a case where every member declared his or her tithing status, and so the bishop has to make declarations for some members. The bishop may not have all the information he needs to make that declaration at this point, or even until a week or so into January, for a couple of reasons:russellhltn wrote:There is no push to get everyone declared before the end of the year.
- It's certainly possible that a donation could be made by December 31st (including the fact that a donation could be sent by mail and postmarked on December 31st, and thus not received until January 4th or so). Such a donation might change the bishop's evaluation of the donor's status.
- A donation made by check might be returned for insufficient funds. It's not likely that this would change the tithing status declaration (although it's not entirely inconceivable), but it would certainly affect the total amount of the donations for the donor, and thus would require the declaration report to be resubmitted.
