Non-Unit Member Paying Tithing

With the new donation slips, there is a spot for the member's membership number. I had thought that this would be useful for non-unit members donating when they are not in their home ward. (Missionaries paying fast offerings, members out of their home ward for extended periods, etc).

When I had a non-unit member pay, I tried adding them into the system as a member of another unit, but when I select that option, the fields for adding their membership number disappear. Seems that I should be able to add their membership number and then the donations will show up on their end of year statements.

I guess that's not the reason for members to put their membership number on the donation slips.

According to the official letter associated with the new donation slips, that's precisely the reason for the MRN. In fact, that letter said that members of the ward didn't need to fill in the MRN. That implies quite strongly that only members of other wards need to fill in the MRN.

I'm at the stake level, so we don't run into this issue. But if you can't record the MRN for members from outside the ward, it seems like something is wrong -- either with MLS or with the communication regarding the new donation slips.

There is definitely no way to enter an MRN for someone who isn't a member of your unit right now. I'm assuming that a change will be made to MLS but just hasn't happened yet.
