Ward name chage - what do I do with 'old' checks?

There was a ward in our stake that changed names recently. The clerk said he received new checks from Salt Lake, but he still has about 35 old checks remaining. Should those checks be destroyed, and if so how do you change the current check number in MLS?

Yes, the checks should be destroyed.

When you print/authorize a new check in MLS, you are always prompted to confirm the new check number. At that point you can set the number to whatever number matches your current check stock, and MLS will sequentially number subsequent checks from that point.
Questions that can benefit the larger community should be asked in a public forum, not a private message.
