Uncashed checks

#1

Post by TullisDA »

An August 2011 notice announced that uncashed checks will be escheated after 180 days. That process is now in place. An electronic document will be sent through MLS in the next week reminding priesthood leaders and clerks of this change. See Escheating checks in the Clerk wiki for more information.

I'm glad to see the new 91-179 day old check counts. That will help me really know how bad things are for the ward I get to nag. ;-)

Here's a FAQ from questions I've already received:

Why did the bank refuse my check?
Checks over six months old are sent to the state of the member's residence per United States law. Until the funds are sent please contact Church HQ to see if they can be retrieved from them.

My check is really old; can I have it voided and get it reprinted?
Not after 180 days, no; see the previous question. Before 180 days a check can be reprinted by contacting the financial clerk for the unit which printed the original check.
