I am the stake clerk. The president asked me to find out how to make a notification to the First Presidency in regard to a member's conviction of a sexual crime. The president was advised by CHQ to make the notification.

How do I do that?

Many thanks,

Michael Klobas

The stake president can always send a letter on any important matter to:

Office of the First Presidency
47 E South Temple
Salt Lake City, UT 84150

I would think that the help line described in Handbook 1, Section 17.3.2 would also be a good resource.

There is a section in the report of disciplinary action to report if the person was criminally convicted (if a disciplinary council is going to be held). It would also seem logical that this info should be sent to the same location the reports are sent, which is the same address aebrown provided. A final thought, you might also be able to send a special request (Membership>Records>Special Requests), which is a feature we use when we want to make a change to a record that can not be done normally in MLS (e.g. place a hold on a record).

I would think there's a mechanism in MLS to do this....

In addition to the reference aebrown provided, you may wish to refer to Handbook 1: 6.13.4 which explains that a letter from the stake president is the preferred method of notification if a disciplinary council is not held.
