Ward History

#1

Post by jeremygreer »

What exactly can we do with the annual history other than submit it to the church?

It is very difficult to get people to share things to put into the ward history when nobody gets to see the finished product.
From the history instructions it says:

"The annual history brings members closer to Christ by helping them remember “what great things the Lord hath done” (title page of the Book of Mormon). Hope and confidence are increased as a result of learning about others who have faced challenges and, with the Lord’s help, overcome them. Learning from history helps us avoid repeating mistakes and provides a sense of identity and heritage. In this way, Church history blesses living and future generations."

But then the training states:

“Do not distribute copies of the annual history to members of your unit.”

How are members supposed to remember and learn from the history if we can't share it with members?

Just because you're not supposed to "widely distribute copies" to members doesn't mean that you can't share it. The page you linked to specifically says:
It is appropriate and even encouraged to share the annual history with members of your unit.
  • Make a copy available outside the stake offices
  • Share stories and photographs through talks, bulletin boards, and newsletters
  • Do not widely distribute copies or post on the internet
  • Do not share confidential or private information
Although the third and fourth points are good limitations, the first two points give suggestions as to how to share it.

Following the link you provided is the answer. It states this on that page:

Sharing with Local Members

It is appropriate and even encouraged to share the annual history with members of your unit.
  • Make a copy available outside the stake offices
  • Share stories and photographs through talks, bulletin boards, and newsletters
  • Do not widely distribute copies or post on the internet
  • Do not share confidential or private information
View the video to see how the bishop shares the annual history with his ward.

We had a session at Stake Conference where clerks and ward historians reviewed the new Annual History e-learning pages.

https://history.lds.org/annualhistories ... index.html

When I try to pull it up at home, I get the right hand portions of the pages, but no images on the left that you click to hear messages from leaders. Is there an update I should have on my computer?
