I had the same scenario come up because our ward moved to another building. Some of the historical documents were from 3 decades ago. According to the MLS manual (http://www.lds.org/bfs/MLS_Help_Manual_2012.pdf; page A-17); if you have documents that are potentially of historical importance, you need to contact the Church History Department for disposition instructions.
