Processing weekly deposits

#1

Post by armandojavierg »

Recently because members of the bishopric and ward clerk work often on Sunday, we have not processed donations for several Sundays and the majority of our members are not on-line donors. To alleviate this problem, it occurs to me that another Melchizedek Priesthood holder (other than a member of the Bishopric or Clerks) could be assigned to open and verify donations.

In the Help Center under Record Keeping in the Finance area at the caption Donations under the heading Processing Donations in the section 'The Companionship Principle' item #2 under procedures it states "Open and verify the donations. Two authorized priesthood holders—typically a clerk and a member of the bishopric—do this together. These two people open each envelope and make sure the money is equal to the total written on the donation slip. Money is never left with one person." So typically a clerk and a member of the bishopric do this together. Does that mean that in our atypical situation where often we only have one member of the bishopric after the services and no clerks, another priesthood holder could be authorized to open and process the donations with the one member of the bishopric? If so, who authorizes it - I would imagine it is the Stake President, right?

There are other issues, such as signing the transaction that would prevent that from working.

I'd suggest you work on calling additional assistant clerk - finance. That would require stake approval.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

Since the help center article was last updated MLS was changed so that now it requires at least one bishopic member and either another bishopic member or clerk with finance responsibility in order to close a donation batch.

So, as rusellhltn indicated calling an additional assistant ward clerk it's probably your best option.
