Strange PM in your account.

Post by WelchTC »

It has come to my attention that many of you are getting a private message from a user named "turing" that says the following:
Hello,
I'm new here and just wanted to say "hi" :)

How's it going?

---
turing
In his signature is a link to a URL which I have left off of this post. It appears that this person also does the same thing on other forums on other Web sites. From the information that I have seen, it is always the same message. If you get this PM in your account, please do not visit his link or respond to him. My guess is that he is either fishing for IP addresses, email addresses or other information that you may inadvertently supply him by replying or visiting his site. Let me know if you have any questions.

As a general rule, if someone private messages you for no reason, be careful in what you do or how you respond.

A little note Turing is the person who developed the thesis with Church that really started Computer Science and the techys that developed because of it.
