Could the signin be automated?

#1

Post by peeryfamily »

With the major changes that have occurred with the rollout of the new lds.org, ISTAKE and IWARD, a product of Avikey Software is unable to extract the data from the church thus making them basically unusable (unless you continue to update the old stake/ward data).

Is there a way that the sign in process could be automated so once you entered your id and password on the device your working on it would just automatically log you in as ISTAKE does?

The directory listing is wonderful and is kept up so if it were more easily accessible it may be a way to encourage members to just use the tools available?

I am not sure what you are asking to be signed into automatically. Is it the new directory? If so what would that accomplish in regards to iWard and iStake? They both currently save the logon credentials for LDS Account, the credentialling application used by both the classic LUWS and the new directory. It is not the logon that is the problem with iWard and iStake accessing information from the new directory. It is the site and the manner in which the directory data is displayed that both programs need to be reprogramed to get the information.

You may want to contact Avikey about their plans to accommodate the new directory in their products.

If you are talking about just locally storing your username/password for the lds.org website itself, that would be a function of your browser.

Regarding the directory data in the classic web site (sometimes called LUWS), my understanding is that it is still being updated for now. There was a rumor here recently that updating had ceased, but that rumor was debunked.

As for Avikey, the big question is whether iStake's architecture will continue. It's login / authentication process historically has been routed through the vendor's server, which means that iStake users were transmitting their LDS Account usernames and passwords to a third party -- an inherently insecure method that, IMO, violated the user's terms for using LDS Account. I would never use or recommend iStake for that reason. (Note that this is different than just remembering the password on the user's own device.) Avikey said a year ago they were planning to change that login method, but I have never seen any word that they did. See this thread.

The Church has developed its own officially sponsored app called LDS Tools, which should be able to supplant the iStake/iWard functionality. LDS Tools does access the new directory data via web services.
