firefox 3.6.8 under macosx 10.6.5 fails to load the http://lds.org/church-calendar/?lang=eng pages correctly. we get the wonderful pop-up "Welcome" page and
there is no obvious way to close it and get on w/ the calendar migration.

on the other platform, an iPAD with Safari, we get past this point but are locked out
due to the lack of flash support on that platform.

My guess is that the reason you can't see an "obvious way to close" the welcome message is that your browser window is a bit too small for you to see the bottom of the message.

You can get around that in a couple of ways.
  1. Use cmd+- to zoom out; then you should be able to see the whole welcome message, including the link at the bottom left corner that says something like "don't show this message again"
  2. Simply click anywhere on the page outside the welcome message. That part of the page has been dimmed and is uninviting, but if you click there, you'll find that the welcome message goes away and you can proceed.

I didn't realize that the calendar required Flash. I thought I had heard of some people accessing the calendar with an iPad. I'll check with them and see.

I have no problem accessing the new calendar at lds.org, or adding, deleting, or checking events.

It works fine for me using Mac OS 10.6.5 with Firefox 3.6.13 or Safari 5.0.3.

I also have no problem (other than the tediousness of using a small screen, and a bogged down CPU with limited memory slowing response times) accessing that same calendar from my iPhone (3G) using whatever version of Safari that is installed with iOS 4.2.1. So the new calendar functions fine without Flash.

There must be other issues in play.

This may be related, or not, but has anyone else noticed how extremely slow the various church website response times are? Especially the new sites. While they look very nice, the rotating "headlines" on each of the main pages cause the entire site to be very sluggish. Clicking on links results in much longer load times than other, non-church sites I routinely access.

The classic LUWS, including the calendar and the administrator links, are extremely slow as well.

Any suggestions on how to speed up the experience?
