Unable to access additional leadership tools

Hi all-

I've recently been asked by our bishop to bring our ward up to speed in use of the new technologies being rolled out by the church. Last week, we assigned the roles of "website administrator" and "ward assistant clerk" in MLS. These callings now show in both the directory at lds.org and in the CDOL, but I still don't show any other tools listed under "callings and responsibilities" at lds.org.

My understanding is that "leadership access" may take some time to propagate to all systems, but the callings were input on Sunday and it is now Wednesday. Should I not being seeing access by now?

I know that I need to check that "website administrator" and "ward assistant clerk" are standard callings, not custom, but I watched the counselor input the callings and I believe that they were the standard ones.

Anyone have any suggestions? I know it doesn't seem like much time to wait, but it's been a long haul just trying to figure out how to start at this point. I would like to have the auxiliary calendars ready to go before the holidays, but no one else in the ward knows how to approve.

Thanks.

BTW, I checked and I do have CDOL access, so I assume that at least something happened when the callings were added in MLS.

It sounds like you've done everything right. In particular, the fact that you now have CDOL access indicates you are correctly set up as an Ward Assistant Clerk. I'm not sure exactly how long access rights take to transfer but 'day or two' is the phrase I've seen used before.

I'm not exactly sure where you're looking for the leadership tools. I'm not aware of any place on the new website that is labeled "callings and responsibilities". However, if the rights have updated completely you should see an entry called "Leader and Clerk Resources" listed towards the bottom of the drop-down Tools menu.

Another place to check is in the Calendar application itself. If the Options menu has an item called Manage Rights then you should have admin access to the Calendar tool. That's enough to get your calendars setup even if the "Leader and Clerk Resources" isn't showing up.

If none of that shows up in the next day or so, I'd say you're going to need to contact LUS.

The post that eblood66 is referring to is in this post. I would wait another day or two and then contact LUS if the tools do not become available.

Do you see what I see?

Welcome to the forum High Powder!
All the previous posts in the thread are correct, but:

So we are all looking for the same things in the same place:
Navigate to LDS.org
Making sure you are logged in, click "tools" from the top menu bar, scroll all the way down (past all the tools you are looking for!) and at the very bottom of that menu, select Show all tools.
Tools for Your Callings and Responsibilities...
....is at the top of the page, followed by a listing of whatever tools you have access rights for. You said you have accessed CDOL, so you should see it here. It really is the same list in a different format as the scroll down menu you used to get there. After the listing of these callings-specific tools you will see an additional grouping of tools described in the box below, under the heading of tools for general membership.

If you have no additional tools as described above, you will see only the following at the top of the page, and every ward member should see these and have access to them WHEN SIGNED IN!
Tools for general membership:
  • Calendar
  • Directory
  • Maps
  • My study notebook
  • Classic LDS.org Stake and Ward Websites
  • Patriarchal Blessing
If you are not logged in with an LDS account, you will still see the above tools for general membership, but clicking on any tool except Maps will require a log-in to continue to the tool. (I knew I should have just made a screenshot!)

note: These menus and features seem to be changing somewhat regularly as the site develops. If this message is very old, the menu or options are likely different!

Admin- Specific to Calendar and Directory

As eblood66 mentioned, a user with admin rights for the calendar and directory at this point will not see any "additional tools" for these two apps listed with your other callings-specific tools. You merely access these, as any ward member would, and as an admin, you are granted additional menus and duties. Some of these will "pop-up" as you log on, like a calendar waiting for your approval, and some will also notify you by email, (your lds account email,) that you have an admin duty awaiting. Some duties will just sit there and fester until you notice them, maybe days or weeks later, like approving a member-submitted photo for the directory.

You may have those rights now, but just not know it. They are only evident as you access those tools and notice additional menus, as eblood suggested for the calendar. In the directory, on the far left menu column, do you see the very bottom menu "Manage photos?" I think that is your clue that you are an admin for the directory...

Many of us have sat in Ward Council and taken turns logging on with a laptop to see what other leaders have in the way of "callings-specific" tools and options within these tools...It's a learning curve, but you'll be impressed. When you have question, do a forum search first, then ask away!

Thanks for the help so far.

No "manage photos" in the directory app and no "manage rights" in the calendar app so far. Also, no other tools listed yet besides the general membership tools.

I'm at three days waiting so far. I'll report back when they show up so that others may have a better idea of how long they may have to wait.

No problem. Report back so we will all know! Patience is a virtue (I keep getting told.)

On the fifth day from when MLS was updated, I contacted LUS (based on reading other user's postings, it seems as though there were others that were having the same problem). Tier 1 support was unable to help - they took my name and number for a call back from Tier 2. I missed the call from Tier 2, but later that morning, viola-I had access. I assume that it took some manual intervention from someone to get my rights updated.

Now if I could just get calendar sync to work (a topic for another thread).
