Directory on new.lds.org

Having some difficulty with the permissions on new.lds.org, specifically the calander and the directory. I have stake website administrator permissions, but those rights do not seem to transfer over to the new tools (directory, calendar, and maps).

Any guidance or suggestions? Is this an MLS role permission? We have a brand new stake technology specialist, and I am supposed to be helping him get up to speed. Please advise.

One thing I am looking for urgently, is the ability to export the ward member directory for each of the wards in our stake, not just my own ward. This is for a printed stake directory we are creating. Is this permission available to anyone? If so, to whom?

Thanks for the help and guidance!

The rights given to certain callings for certain applications are quite different. Being the stake website administrator will give you no special permissions to the directory as far as I know, but it gives you quite a bit of power in the calendar application.

If you're not seeing that you have administrator privileges in the calendar application, then the most likely cause is that you have not been given the standard "Stake Web Site Administrator" calling in Stake MLS; if that seems to be the case, contact your stake clerk and ask him to make sure you have the standard calling and that it shows up in CDOL as a standard calling.

For maps, stake callings don't let you do much of anything -- all modifications have to be done at the ward level.

No, the permission to do export on the directory is for your ward only. Even the stake president can only export his own ward.

The only way I know of to get exported information for the whole stake is to use MLS. The stake clerk could help you with that by doing an export and then removing all the confidential information, leaving just the fields necessary for the stake directory. One downside of that approach is that all members are included no matter what, so you have to be careful to manually exclude any members who do not want to be included in the directory.

Another option on a ward by ward basis is to use the old ward/stake website's directory and export as CSV from each ward's Membership Directory page. That format might be a little harder to work with and might not have the information you want (it has no individual phone numbers, for example), but that is another possibility.

Permissions for the directory at new.lds.org are based on your calling. So those with standard administrative callings such as Bishop, Ward Clerk, Stake President, and such have administrative rights.

Having stake website administrator permissions in the LUWS is not the same thing as having the standard calling in MLS of Stake Web site administrator. If that is not your calling, then you likely need someone with an appropriate stake administrative calling to grant you approver rights.

There is some helpful information about administrative rights here.

EDIT: I love starting a reply, getting called away, and then upon completing the reply discovering that someone else has already throughly responded, making my response mostly superfluous. <sigh>

I am curious as to the reasoning behind restricting export of membership information for other wards in the stake? So long as the private profiles are excluded, the member has access to the data an individual at a time anyway. For anyone working on a Church project targeting the entire stake it would be much more convenient to download the non-private list online than to work with the stake clerks to export from MLS and clean up confidential information.

I think it's more of a feature development issue. They simply haven't gotten there yet.

Another downside of using the MLS exports is that right now there apparently is a bug in the way they report the Household Phone and Household E-mail data. At least that is the case in ward MLS. I have not seen stake MLS exports.

Or it could be because it now makes it more difficult for someone to get a complete list for inappropriate commercial or political purposes.

Reading the help page does make it sound like it's current operation is by design rather then something to be expanded later.
