Tool box

Looking over the Forum categories, it seems like a useful category would be a tool box section.

Currently there are:
  • Announcements
  • Projects
  • Community Discussions
  • Help and Feedback
I love playing with technology and love tools that make my calling (bishopric) and life easier. There have been several tools listed here and there in the forums that are useful, but they are peppered among different topics.

I love the map tool to automatically map out your ward from the LUWS .cvs file. I am also pleased with the Membership Database program to work with MLS, although I wish it functioned in an online collaborative fashion (although I recognize this is difficult to do, since we don't want to upload sensative church data to the web).

I have used MIS2PALM ( for some time as a tool to get MLS membership and organization data into my PocketPC and Outlook for easy data access.

I want more tools and a way to find them easy on this site. Hence a tool box section seemed useful. Not that the Church would endorse these tools; it would just make them easier to find and share useful tools.

There could be a section titled, "A call for tools". Just as someone requested via a forum post for a high council speaker program; a program was turned around quickly.

Another example might be a tool to help the Activities commitee track how much food/supplies to buy for various ward functions. Every year we have a Memorial Day breakfast, Labor Day picnic, Christmas party. Every year we struggle to determine how much food/supplies to get. Logging this data could show average trends after only a few activies, letting you know if you over purchased or under planned. The program could "project" or "estimate" how much to purchase for the next activity.

I love the tech site; it is fun to read the forums and keep tabs on what is going on. This is just a suggestion.

That is a great idea. I like the way you suggest we have a place where people can ask for tools and another place where people can talk about existing tools. I'll formalize this soon.
