Difficulty in accessing the forum

It appears that I have to create a new account on the home page not on the FORUM page.
The forum page needs a conspicuous "Create Account" link. (maybe I missed it, but then it wouldn’t seem very conspicuous…)
Also it seemed as though my account did not function until I received the welcome email. It would be nice if I was informed of this on the website after creating the account. For a little while I thought the account creation was broken.

I wasn't trying to imply the site was crappy (it is pretty slick). Just helping out with feedback.
