The forum does not remember me

Every time I visit the forum, I have to enter my username and password. I always check "Remember Me?" but the forum never remembers me. I have tried Chrome and Internet Explorer on Windows, and Chrome and Safari on Mac OS X.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Works fine for me. I believe the login is stored in a cookie. If you clean it out, you'll lose the login. I'd check security settings.

Forgot to add. For some reason, my phone tends to forget me - until I click on something (like view newest messages). Then all of a sudden I'm logged in.

This prompted me to try something. When I first open my browser, I type http://tech.lds.org/forum into the address bar, and the resulting page has the empty username and password fields. I decided to ignore that and I clicked on "What's New?" at the top. Then I am logged in! So my cookies are working fine, it's just something about the forum index page the first time I visit that doesn't show I am actually logged in.

That exact behavior happens for me as well, on both my phone and my laptop.

Try using https instead of http. That works better for me in this regard.

The first page I go to is usually either New Posts or Today's Posts (depending on which browser I am using and how it displays). And the first time that page displays it usually contains inaccuracies. For example, there are always four pages of messages totaling 80 posts, no matter how many there really are. Once I click on something (a new page or a post and then return to the New Posts list, the page displays an accurate count of pages and posts.

And at first, it does not display only the posts I have not read. It displays many others as well.

So it appears to me that the Forum does not really know what to do specifically for me until the second or third page I display. But after that, it works just fine.

There are other websites that behave the same way. I am not smart enough to look at the html code and tell what is happening, but I suspect some kind of processing order issue where it doesn't quite get all the information it should before it begins displaying things, but quickly catches up.

I find that I, myself, work a lot like that, especially when I am just starting up, so I can relate. [grin]
