Pebble Smartwatch Book of Mormon App

#1

Post by bartoleria »

Hello!

I've decided to give it a try and fork an open source bible app for the Pebble Smartwatch to convert it into a Book of Mormon app (here is the original project https://github.com/petehare/Bible). I've gone quickly over it and it depends on the API from bible.org to retrieve the contents. I have looked for something similar but, besides the Web Catalog I haven't seen anything that could help me get certain passages with a GET request.

Does anyone know of anything that could help?

Also, if anyone is interested in joining me for this project that'll be great. I only have front-end experience and this is just for fun and learning (and being able to carry a tiny BofM on my wrist).

I am very interested in seeing this App come to fruition! I thought of the same idea but I don't code (yet). I know someone who might be able to help us, he codes for the church already. Did you figure out what you need to do it?

The only Church-supported way to get gospel content is through the Gospel Library Catalog Web Service:
https://tech.lds.org/wiki/Third-party_A ... el_content
http://tech.lds.org/wiki/Gospel_Library ... eb_Service

There are one or two other LDS scriptures services that people have created based on public-domain copies of the scriptures, but often they are based on older editions of the scriptures, and they don't include chapter headings, footnotes, and other LDS study helps. And, you aren't likely to find much more than English content outside of the always-updated official Church source. Here is an example of a third-party service:
