Portable PA System for Church Units overseas?

Anyone have recommendations for or experience with any good portable PA type systems? I've been in a couple of overseas units that could have benefited, and I'm in Japan now where we've got a primary room that desperately needs something.

The building is rented, so there's no built-in audio. For extra fun, Japanese frequency allocation is different and any wireless system would be illegal here.

So, a wired microphone and speaker system -- fortunately, voltage is not an issue, as Japan is 100 volts 50 hz (and generally supports US 110/60 systems).

There are a handful on Amazon -- just curious if there is a standard, or any input anybody can share on this question. Thanks!

I would check with your FM Group. They have access to an expanded church catalog with all kinds of equipment.

This year my SP asked me to evaluate and propose a new portable PA for use at youth camps and other outdoor activities. We had an old Peavey system that they liked, but it had been brutally beaten up over the years. After evaluating a lot of systems, I settled on the Peavey Escort 3000.

We've used it at Girl's Camp, Youth Conference, a groundbreaking for a building, and even as a backup system for in-house events and we've been very satisfied with it. It is super portable, has a built-in mixer and amplifier, and has enough power to fill a large space with sound.

Another thing to consider: if the stake buys it, it comes out of the activities budget. If FM gets it, it doesn't.

My STS calling doesn't seem to get access to the cool stuff in the store.lds.org, but I remember many years ago seeing a printed catalog that had things all the way up to and including organs for a stake center. I'll bet that same concept is still around.

You need to be familiar with the technical audio terms when considering to buy pa systems. Once I hired Mid Size Sound System (1200 Watts) for the event having 150 attendees and I was satisfied with the performance. Later I bought it referring the advice of audio visual service providers.
