Download Curriculum Videos

#1

Post by dbcottam »

I am the Ward Technology Specialist. I have been discussing with my Sunday School President about how we can utilize the videos and technology more frequently and easily, especially for those who are not technologically literate.

We are playing with the idea of a Raspberry pi for our TVs with all of the videos pre-downloaded for Sunday School (all courses), Priesthood/Relief Society, Seminary, etc. This would basically be the LDS Media app (minus the playlist and editing capabilities) offline.

I could go through each lesson and download the videos and file them based on a hierarchy (Sunday School > Youth > Come Follow Me > January > Lesson > Videos). Basically exactly how the LDS Media app is set up.

Is there a quick way to download each video without going from lesson to lesson?
or...
Is there something like this (offline videos on a device that can hook to the TV) already being used?

Thanks for your advice.

We're buying one of these for each TV and attaching them with double-sided velcro. I've been carrying one around with me for members to borrow and they've worked great and they're easy for a non-techy to use. More stable than a Raspberry Pi.

If you wanted all of the videos already on it, you could get an SD card and have it always plugged into it.

The push of the church to use online media is great but there's a big gap in knowledge for most members on how to play that media on the TVs with no solution from the church. Add to that the fact that WiFi is terrible in most buildings, it's made it so instructors pretty much never use media. I remember watching film strips when I was a kid more often than instructors use online videos now. This is our solution. We're in the process of purchasing and installing them now. I'll let you know how it goes.

My stake just bought and delivered Chromecast devices to each meetinghouse. However, I am not convinced that our teachers will be able to use such a device.
