What new video projectors are currently being distributed to stake centers?

We're replacing our old Sony VPL-EX4 and need to research a good replacement. What are you using and how does it perform? What are the specifications (make, model, lumens, contrast ratio, resolution, etc.)? How do you like it? Since data projectors aren't really great for video (general conference), it's hard to determine how good video quality is from reviews based on use as a data projector.

Our chapel cannot get very dark due to the way the lights are set up and there is a lot of light that spills onto the screen and washes out the picture. I'm hoping the new projectors can be bright enought to overcome our washed out screen.

Have you had your PFR ask your FM group what they are providing nowadays? Might save some stake budget money.

I'd also suggest talking to your FM group about rewiring your lights. We just had a screen put in and our FM group was able to rewire the room so that the lights can be controlled to accommodate projecting to our screen's location.

That's a good point. Our FM group had some retractable window shades put in the chapel of one of our buildings just to make the projection system less washed out for stake conference. They did an incredible job, BTW, as we had some massive windows with a LOT of morning sunlight to deal with. :)

As has been said, talk to your FM group. They can probably do something about the situation (change lighting or replace the projector) if asked nicely by the right person.

FYI - ended up purchasing the Benq MX761 (1024 x 768, 4200 ANSI lumens) for $999. Seller did not have one in stock they upgraded us to the newer MX764 ($1,199 value) for the same money. When I tried the unit, I found it was defective (worked only 1 day). The seller sent me an RMA for the defective projector and the Benq factory exchanged it overnight for a SH910 ($1,799, true HD @ 1920 x 1080, and 4000 ANSI lumens)...still for the same money.

The only problem now is that the throw distance of the SH910 requires an additional 3 feet of distance to fill the chapel screen.

Hmmmm, what do I do now?
