New Prototype Building Audio/Video/broadcast

Just a quick note to everyone,

My stake in the Kansas City area is host to a new prototype building with a new audio/video/broadcast solution implemented. I am very particular in each of these areas, and the Sound Design group delivered!! I was extremely impressed with the quality and their attention to detail. My past experience has shown that you get out of the building about the skill-set of the people running it. Quality depends on the individual called to serve and based on various reasons, you don't always get the full potential of what's there.

I was really impressed with the new design, and the ease of use and variability to the average person. Each room with sound has an input selector that you cycle basically by pushing a button. So push the button and you hear what is in the chapel, or you can hear the satellite - for us either english or spanish, or the webcast.. where there is audio/video output the selection for the speaker in the room also determines the video signal. The mother's room can hear the audio in the RS room as well - so basically... just click the button until you hear what you want. They also have an override LOCK when you have setup the building for specific purposes and people can't override what you need to do.

A Sony EVI-D70 is mounted on one side of the chapel towards the back with an output directly below it for monitoring, and an IR port to control the camera (there is also an IR port at the telcom/audio/video rack) to control the camera.... I WAS very disappointed that I'm unable to put a 2nd camera on the other side (although I did run conduit for purchasing one later) - there isn't a way currently to mix that signal into the existing system -- Though I could pull it and do it myself for the broadcast, but it can't be added to the mix. The REAL problem with the design here and what some of us are doing for broadcasts is that if I want to do text overlay for names and hymns or scripture blocks, etc... I can manipulate the video for the webcast, but not what is seen at the building (unless the building is watching the webcast but with the time delay that seems odd to do)

The closet is in a rather strange place, I was hoping for a room that could be used to stage a broadcast, etc... But instead you must do this in a hallway.... the media center is directly across so you could run a bunch of cables along the floor and run it from the media center.

We did have to specifically request a separate music system for the stake offices, I don't know if that will become part of the standard design or not.

Wireless Access Points are mounted in a Square and cover the entire building, they are mounted on the ceiling though there was some question about it. The design had originally intended to use the ASA5505 - the new 881W makes the Wireless signal pretty saturated on the one side... but that kind of thing is to be expected.

Overall... I'm Impressed with what they've done... they are thinking ahead... though it's a year ago where they drew the lines... we are moving so fast anymore, it would be a very difficult to meet all of my usage wants.

Now, let's just get that Temple dedicated!

Wow this sounds interesting. it sounds like they need to take the operator into account and give him something to work with. I know at my stake center, I will be converting a closet to a work area.

However, I won't have a new building in my stake for a long time.

This link http://aec.ldschurch.org/aec/standard_p ... ependence/ shows the exterior of the building with some great shots of the temple in the background..... this link... http://aec.ldschurch.org/aec/standard_plans/ has a very small plan that shows the Chapel/Cultural Hall/Stage/Stake Suite running on an exterior with a square attached. There is a bunch of natural lighting in the chapel/cultural hall - a courtyard with receptions in mind, and in our case, you can see out the chapel windows from the rostrum and about 4 rows back and look at the temple.
