How would you change the Meetinghouse Webcast software?

Postby starkjs » Tue Dec 14, 2010 12:03 pm

ImageWith the upcoming release of the Meetinghouse Webcast 3.0 Software (the beta of which may be found here), we would like to know what changes you would make. How do you like the user interface? What additional features would you add? What features would you remove? What gives you the most headache? Please let us know by posting your comments below.

I've only been using the dedicated box so far and only quickly glanced at the software but if there is any way to add a second audio channel it would be greatly appreciated. Not knowing the entire encoding path it may be the encoder that is the limiting factor but if not, the ability to add a second audio feed for translation purposes would alleviate a significant burden on our stake.

We have 3 locations requiring translation services and that's difficult to manage. If we could do it at the source and mix it into the feed as a second audio channel that would be great.

We would like to originate from two locations during the same event and feed to all meetinghouses.

Provide for the bouncing ball for music, overlays, the use of charts and graphics, and playing short video clips (etc.)

If you could add some of the features that were found in 2.1 such as the bandwith speed options or list what the low, medium, and high option speeds would translate to that would be great. Also with version 3.0 when you upgrade from the 2.1 it asks you to assign an event ID which makes the computers think for a long time and to terminate it you must go into the settings and click ok. If you could resolve that issue it would be greatly appreciated.

Encode streams that are iPad, h.264 friendly and don't require Windows Media Player to view.

Allow an option for those that have Encoder 4 Pro to do IIS smooth streaming with multiple bit rates. This would allow a lower bit rate to be selected automatically if the speed to the internet drops in a location. But this would require the Encoder PC to have substantially more power to encode multiple bits with out dropping frames. Maybe make it an "Advanced feature"

I do have to say what has been delivered already is an excellent simple product,. kudos to the product team!

Doesn't v2 do that? We had someone receiving on a aircard type connection who said that they were dropped to a audio only stream shortly after connecting.

* Simple feature: A pre-loaded list of hymn overlays to allow users to select a hymn and have the words come in like on a power point overlay with the user choosing when to switch slides
* Complicated feature: Allow multiple cameras to be used, have both video streams come into the program and be able to select camera 1, camera 2 or picture in picture of both 1 and 2 (for crowd/conductor shots ala general conference during hymns) during the broadcast

Aaron, for me this sounds great. I don't work for the church or have any say in the matter, but with multiple cameras, why not get a $1,000 video switcher that is already on the market? For me, to do what you are asking, would require multiple capture cards in the web casting server and I believe that would be a nightmare to handle.

What I would like is the powerpoint/titles at the bottom of the screen indicating who is speaking.
