Beta for viewing Church broadcast events over the Internet

#1

Post by starkjs »

For many areas of the world, watching General Conference live is either not reasonable or not available. Numerous congregations live in time-zones where conference is broadcast during late hours or on work days. For others, they do not have access to a chapel or other meeting location with a satellite dish and receiver. In Ghana, Africa, congregations may wait up to six weeks for the arrival and distribution of DVDs to watch conference. For the April, 2010 conference, some congregations in Ghana were able to reduce this wait to one week by downloading conference over the Internet and playing it back using a portable computer.

For the October, 2010 General Conference, the Meetinghouse Technologies team of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints wishes to invite local units to beta test various off-the-shelf technologies to watch conference either live or on a delayed basis.
