Cannot get laptop to Detect Display

When using a laptop to feed both VGA for a projector and S-Video for RF video distribution, I have found some laptops do not detect the S-Video port, even when we try forcing the detection.
This is very frustrating when the meeting is ready to start…ALWAYS test your equipment beforehand and work out the bugs!
Here is a suggestion which I have found helpful. Connect the S-Video cable (with or without the composite video balun) into a device that has regular video inputs such as a Projector, TV monitor, DVD player, VCR, etc. Then re-attempt to detect your display. It may work. If it does, you should be able to unplug the cable and reconnect it to the RF amplifier.
Many video RF amplifiers are not recognized by the laptop because they may not have the correct resistance.
