Composite to SDI then SDI to HDMI.

If heat was the only problem, I'd think adding a heatsink would help.
I am sure the quality of the device may play a part too.

if you look carefully at the monoprice converter and compare it to some others, you will quickly notice several name brands look exactly the same.

This is the best price for a major brand converter that I have been able to find & is still in production (for now)

We were told last week that the VidiU devices are sitting in a container in California due to the strike last month. They hope to receive the devices within a month.

I can't remember the exact numbers but the discount was only about $125. We can't afford to wait a month so we just ordered the device ourself from somewhere else.

Overlooked it at first because of the lack of a photo. Not as good of a price as I had hoped. It currently says out of stock.

I found the Vidiu on amazon. The monoprice video to hdmi converter degrades the quality of the video. Has anyone tested any other video converters? If so, which models work well?

I have tested several and none work well. Tested very expensive ones too.

Best to use the Vidiu with true HD

Best to use our composite capture devices with Open Broacaster software, that way we have great picture all around.

Which did you test? The one recommended to me by an employee was Black Magic, in a two-step process. The cost starts to get close to the price of the VidiU. However, with SD, you can send it though the building's CC system. And that's a biggie for me.

The Vidiu is a great option for Stake Broadcasts.

If you have to convert why bother, just use the free solution and it works great with what we have.

Now if you have an HD / HDMI camera then I would use the Vidiu.

I tried single step devices from Altona, Extron and several of the generic brands like the monoprice unit of which did work as well as the expensive ones. I just am not a fan of converting or scaling.
