Oops. I showed up to the test with my new laptop running Windows 8.1 and do not have Windows Media Player. Does our building have to pay for the privilege of watching stake conference now, or is there another way to view a webcast?

I was not able to make VLC work. Suggestions, options?

The Intel version is the successor to older Windows machines. It should run most desktop programs OK (usual disclaimers apply). The ARM version - well, it acts like windows, but can't run anything not written/compiled for RT.

I don't know what options you have. VLC is the usual recommendation, and they're working on support for RT, but it may not be there yet.

Intel i5-4200U. VLC runs just fine. I just can't get it to run the webcast stream from the Church.

If there are VLC settings that work, that would be peachy.

We found that VLC 2.1.5 is requiring a more complete URL. Be sure to include the http and www. For example http://www.stream.lds.org/... would work but any short cut such as stream.lds.org/... would fail.

Actually, I since have found that if we use mms: instead of http: it will almost always work.

I didn't know that www was part of the stream.lds.org website. I don't think it is. I understand the http://stream.lds.org part though, and that is true for other programs, as well. Many need to have the http: (or something specific) to work.
