Maybe I'm stupid, but what are the actual steps to Audio Conferencing??

I've got to set up a conference audio bridge for Stake Conference as backup audio for the webcast.

It's in Saratoga Springs Utah so the churches I think are using Qwest/Centurylink phone lines.

As I understand it I need to do the following:

Get a conference number from someone (Qwest) to call into from the three locations.
In the Stake Center pull the audio off somehow in the library and get it into a phone handset, after placing the call to the conference line and joining in.

Then in the two ward buildings I run a long cable or find a RJ11 port near the podium if possible and use a phone to dial into the conference line, then plug the headset into something that converts to the microphone jack in the podium.

I think we are using the boxes at the Wards to convert the mini audio to the microphone plug for the webcast. I'll have to check if these have a RJ11 port and can be easily switched to the conference line without hanging up.

Is that pretty much it? Or is it more complicated?

That's about right. Take a look at Audio backup solutions for Church broadcasts for the details on how to connect things. I'd suggest an amplifier of some kind for the "transmit" site. Otherwise the single level at he receiving sites is likely to be weak and noisy.
