MLS Backups - Finance and Membership difference

Postby rstringh-p40 » Wed Jan 02, 2008 3:35 pm

I am a little confused about MLS backups. It is my understanding that before MLS came along that the membership and finance data was stored and backed up separately, but now with MLS they are combined into the same system.

My question is that if they are in the same system, then why do I get the Ugent Message that MLS has not been backed up recently, when they just did a backup after making some finance changes a little earlier that same day?

Thanks in advance,

Not only where the backups separate, the program itself was separate.

What's happened since that last backup? If they did a send/receive, that could do it.

I'm not sure when the Urgent Message get's cleared. Perhaps it was "set" due to a prior event and hasn't updated by the time you've seen it? Also make sure no one has been playing with the PC's clock. That will get you into trouble real quick.

So I assume by your response that the backup the Finance clerk does and the standard MLS backup are the same thing.

We have not changed the clock at any time. I learned from another Wards bad experience that changing the clock is a bad thing.

I have seen this urgent message come up a few times, and when I go to do the MLS backup there is already a backup file out there by the same name/date. I cannot tell you whether they did a send/receive between when I got on and when they did their backup, but I do know that they had shutdown MLS and I had to relaunch it.

Correct - there is only one backup process. Any change on the financial side will trigger a backup request, but any backup file can be used to restore the system. Maybe I'm confusing my FIS and MLS, but I think you can cancel a requested backup on exit, but then you're forced to do a backup when you go into the program the next time. Perhaps they are leaving a "booby trap" for you to do their dirty work?
