MLS usage by aux presidents and secretaries

Postby alessandrofaresin » Tue Apr 19, 2011 4:46 am

Hi everyone,
this is my first time and I'm not sure if I'm doing it right, so forgive me. Anyway I have a question about inputing data to MLS.
I have been told by my stake (Venice/Italy) computer specialist that only the branch clerk can and should edit and insert records (home teach. visiting teach. and so on). Is that true? Is there a different policy in the Europe Area than in the States? Does anyone know?
Thanks a lot.

On the topic of who would use MLS, the MLS Software Manual says "MLS is for use by unit leaders, clerks, auxiliary and quorum leaders, and secretaries at both the ward and stake levels." I really doubt that this policy would be any different in Europe.

However, the stake/district president and bishop/branch president certainly have the authority to direct who will use MLS in the units for which they are responsible. If they would like to further restrict who may use MLS, they may do so. But that's not the general policy.
Questions that can benefit the larger community should be asked in a public forum, not a private message.

There is definitely a training issue - you don't want anyone using the system if they don't know what they are doing. However, it is very common (in the US at least) for auxiliary secretaries to have access to manage their own needs - organizing HT/VT, entering visits, printing rolls, etc. I would not be comfortable with them editing membership records (address, contact info) but could see a bishop allowing it.

Yes, for certain there is an issue. All those who have permission to access MLS have also restricted privileges according to their callings. So there is no way to mess up with data. Well we'll see what the Europe Area Presidency has to say about it.
Thanks a lot.
