I'd like to know where you are getting this information at.
I've never seen any instructions for CHQ that would advise me of any updates that I need to install, aside from MLS.
Although our admin computers are now on DSL (wireless), we still have the computers configured with the desktop 5.5 OS which prevented any updates from being automatically installed.
I'm aware of where to go to reconfigure the computers so they would perform automatic updates, but I've never been instructed to do so by anyone.

Without commenting on whether or not you need to do any manual updates, I would note that every administrative computer should now have the new Local Unit Computer Management Software. This updated version of LANDesk does do periodic OS updates.Techgy wrote:Although our admin computers are now on DSL (wireless), we still have the computers configured with the desktop 5.5 OS which prevented any updates from being automatically installed.

We have the new LANDesk package, but I've never noticed any updates other than what comes from the MLS package. I have to wonder if the restrictions from the original Desktop 5.5 OS have been changed?Alan_Brown wrote:Without commenting on whether or not you need to do any manual updates, I would note that every administrative computer should now have the new Local Unit Computer Management Software. Update: According to the GSD the updates occur silently in the background. I had them check one of our systems and we're up-to-date, which is nice to know.

LA Jackson,
Wow - 150 miles x 250 miles, what a large stake
Our stake is only 51 miles by 11 miles and I only have only one (1) MLS dial-up desktop, which at one time I did updates as you suggested with a flash drive. I now relocate the dial-up MLS desktop to another meetinghouse, which is close by with a DSL connection
It was reported on another thread that someone had their MLS desktop dial-up active for over four (4) hours and that updates were deployed. It should be noted that the last updates took over an hour with a DSL connection
This information that has been posted is only useful for those who want to keep their MLS desktops, with a DSL Internet connection, up to date with the most current versions of software from headquarters
It is assumed that you have LANDesk installed
Also, some of us have been known to keep their personal desktop patch at the same level as FHC desktops so that only working patches and updates are installed to protect desktops from a variety of threats on the Internet

However, if the LANDesk is working properly, it should have updated itself and no further action required.
But it would be good to check.

FHC Desktop Updates and Performance Issues
Please advise if any of your Family History Centers experienced any performance issues today, 13Oct2010, when connected to new.familyserach.org and FHC portal web sites
One (1) FHC reported that they had issues today and we are trying to eliminate that today's deployments may have caused their issue
Microsoft Software Patch Deployments:
The number of patches may vary depending on the software you have installed on the FHC Windows XP desktops
Also, if your FHC's desktop(s) had not been turned on for at least four (4) hours in the last several weeks and you turned it on today, then the desktop would receive at least twenty-seven (27) updates today Total of 9 Microsoft patches were deployed on 13Oct2010
KB980218, KB981852, KB981997, KB982802, KB2121546, KB2160329, KB2259922, KB978338, KB979559
Total of 18 Microsoft patches were deployed on 06Oct2010
KB975562, KB979332, KB982381-IE8, KB978542, KB975558, KB981322
KB2347290, KB982665, KB982214, KB980436, KB2115168, KB2079403
KB2183461-IE8, KB2286198, KB2229593, KB978695, KB980195, KB979482
Notes:
1) Additional information about the updates that have been deployed can be found at http://support.microsoft.com
2) Headquarters can deploy other desktop updates to policies (etc.) and to non Microsoft software and they are not included in the above lists
3) Date of deployments may vary depending when you have a desktop available for updates
