Membership Record Update Report question

On occasion after performing a Send/Receive in MLS, we'll get a printout of a Membership Record Update Report that will simply indicate a member's name and membership#, along with the following text:

Individual record printed
Individual record - Individual Ordinance Summary

This happened today for an inactive member, and we're unable to tell why the report and an IOS generated...the update report doesn't provide any clues.

I'm wondering if others have ran into this, and if perhaps an enhancement request is in order.

I've had them print out for me, but only if I've changed/updated something about the members record. It prints out a copy of the IOS that I presume is to be given to the member to verify the change was correct and therefore provide them with an updated copy of the member record.

Have you made any updates to the member records? It doesn't sound like it. I wonder if this is something related to the populating of LDSaccount and LUWS contact info to the member record. However, it's unlikely an inactive member would be using either...

I've been able to identify a scenario that causes the mysterious 'Individual record printed' printout to occur from MLS. I'm adding it here since I have an enhancement request on the wiki that links to this thread.

A couple in our ward recently pointed out a correction to the spelling of their last name. It so happens that their daughter, who is married (separate household), also lives in our ward. In MLS, I made the change to the couple's name and submitted it, but did not submit a change for the daughter.

Once it had been processed by the church, I got the normal update report and IOS printouts for the couple. I also received a separate printout with the ambiguous 'Individual record printed' for the daughter's records, since the spelling of her maiden name was affected by the parent's update. Had the parents been in a different ward, I would have never known the reason for the daughter's update.

For cases like this, it would be helpful if the membership update report could indicated the reason why it is being generated. This issue seems to come up every few weeks due to unknown changes to membership records.

I find it surprising that a name change of the parents would cause the maiden name to change. Given that offspring are not always given the parent's name, that assumption could lead to errors being introduced to the records.

However, I do remember that the parent's names are in the individual's records and frequently linked by a membership number. Are you sure it wasn't triggered by the parent's name change and that daughter's maiden name just happened to be correct before before the correction?

That could have very well been the case...which just reaffirms the reason for posting the issue.

Another reason the Membership record and IOS are being printed out is if someone has recently gotten a copy of their "Line of Authority" from Salt Lake. When the Line of Authority is sent to the member, if there is any change in the members record it will be printed out.....case in point:

My ordination to High Priest only had the first and last name of the Stake President who ordained me. I asked via email for a copy of my Line of Authority recently and it came back with all the information for both my Elder ordination and High Priest ordination. Subsequently, the ward received an "unasked for" update to my record which now included the full name of the individual (and member number I believe) who ordained me to High Priest.

This very well could be why some of the records show up in the unit computers even though the ward did nothing to change or request an update.
