No MLS 2.9.4 ??

#11

Post by ffrsqpilot »

I was anxiously awaiting the release of MLS 2.9.4 so I could print out our stake sustaining list (with the new Apostle) for stake conference this weekend. I called Salt Lake to see if it would come out prior to this weekend and was told that MLS 2.9.4 won't be sent at all.

Apparently, at least from what the specialist at MLS support stated, the next upgrade will be 3.0 with no release date set as of yet.

Anyone hear or know differently?

I know I can download the beta version of 2.9.4 and upload to the stake computer but I would rather not since I believe the policy is that everyone in the stake should be on the same version and with the newer one coming out it makes little sense to travel all over our wide spread stake just to input a beta version.

Well, I don't know anything contrary to that for certain, but I have a hard time believing that is true. A lot of work has gone into the process of developing, internal testing, beta testing, documenting, and posting 2.9.4 already, that it would be strange to suddenly pull the plug on the release, while still leaving the beta version on mls.lds.org.

There are also many stakes participating in the beta who have already upgraded, but don't have the final version yet. Are they just going to be left in limbo with an unfinished version for who knows how long? That doesn't make sense.

The Clerk Support people try hard and do a wonderful job with most issues, but they don't have a 100% track record. I wouldn't make plans based on that one phone call without some confirmation.

Alan, that was kind of my thoughts also, but I got the word directly from the folks (who are supposed to be in the know) from calling MLS support. Perhaps I got a wrong number. I'll try again this morning. If I get a different answer then I'll wander down to the stake center and input the upgrade.

At a minimum, if they are going to pass 2.9.4 for another version they should send out another message via MLS so we can stop wondering when the upgrade will be released.

I'll post again when everyone gets to work.

I spoke to someone at the MLS service desk just this morning and they are planning on releasing 2.9.4 this Friday (tomorrow). When I mentioned the possibility that it wasn't going to be released after all, the person told me that they hadn't heard that and were still planning on a release.

I suggest that since Friday is almost here, that we simply wait and see what happens. If we're still waiting in a week, then.....:p

I just got off the line with the MLS support folks and the person I talked with this morning said the same thing that Techgy mentioned in the above post. Not sure why I got different information yesterday from the same folks. However, they assured me that 2.9.4 will be released Friday (or by Sunday) so we should see it shortly.

With that in mind I guess I'll go ahead and download the beta version today so I can print out the corrected sustaining list.

Sorry if I confused anybody or started a "vicious" rumor! :o

2.9.4 will need to be downloaded before anyone can get 3.0. I know that it won't be until at least July before we see 3.0 but just to make you aware, 2.9.4 is a prerequisite. Infact your whole stake should really be on 2.9.4 before any ward downloads 3.0 otherwise all of the changes that they have made in 3.0 will not be available. I really don't see this being a problem for most of the wards and stakes though. We will have plenty of time to get 2.9.4 onto our stakes before 3.0 even becomes an issue.
