Custom Reports was the term we used with MLS to make unique database-like reports. It sounds like you've been assigned by someone who has used this old MLS system.
The newer LCR (Leader & Clerk Resources) has built in reports, some with sorting options, but almost no ability to pull "custom information" from our membership records that is not already included in a report.
So, become familiar with what LCR has to offer, and this means PLAY TIME. (Think 4 year old with iphone-) Try every report, every option and sort. If the report does not show you EXACTLY what you need, you must further "customize" it yourself, using a spreadsheet (copy to the clipboard from the offered LCR report and paste into your spreadsheet or word processor,) or print and use a yellow highlighter, or a pair of scissors.
Example to get you started: Your list of HT/VT Assigned
Go to LCR/REPORTS/Home and visiting teachers and use the sort functions as needed. Need further processing? Copy the report data and paste into a spreadsheet.
The report "unit Statistics" is useful, especially under the "households" section for members of your ward with unique needs/challenges, (although part-member family is not one of them.) Selecting the blue colored number is actually a link that brings up a listing of those members that make up the total for the line.
The "Bishops action and interview list" is also useful for status of baptism and priesthood ordinations that can also highlight information you might use to discover issues.
The "quarterly report" can also be useful, use the blue numbers to pull up lists
