Tithing Reconciliation for a Discontinued Ward

#1

Post by jtwitchell »

Greetings,
I am the Stake Technology Specialist for our stake. Earlier this year our stake went from 6 wards down to 5 wards. The computer for the ward that was discontinued was moved to the stake offices and as I understand it, the reconciliation was completed (I need to verify this). During tithing settlement, it was discovered that a tithing slip from the discontinued ward was applied to the wrong person (i.e. "Jr." instead of "Sr."). With the ward discontinued, is there a way to change the name on the donation? Can anything be done in the ward that they were reassigned to? I looked through the Forum and the Church's help sections and couldn't find anything related. Thanks in advance!

If you still have access to MLS for the discontinued ward:

Go into the closed batch.
Edit the donation to show the correct donor.
Include the reason.
Reprint the batch report.

Reprint the year to date summaries for the two affected members and give them the new printouts.
Reprint (or print) their official tax statements for the bishop to sign and give to them.

They will declare their tithing status in the new ward.

Edited to add: You will probably not be able to do a Send/Receive because the ward has been discontinued. You should call CHQ and ask them how to handle the change of donor names. None of the other financial information needs to change, but SL should have the correct donor totals, and you may have to give them that information over the phone.

Greetings,
I got an interesting message back from HQ. They said to go back into the discontinued ward, make the change, print out the new tax statements and that is it. I would guess if anyone else has issues in the future, contact HQ and find out what should be done. Thanks for everyone's help!
