I too would like to see an access to remote systems within our stake. Our stake covers 3 Counties. It takes me 12 hours round trip to cover all the wards during an MLS update. IF there is problems that trip may take longer. HQ's must allow technology specialists the rights to remotely access the ward systems.
I am with you that the travel time is tremendous and the fuel costs does not help any either. I too add a wish for the Stake technology specialists the opportunity to have access rights to the wards.
Thank you,
Ray Jamison,
Stake technology specialist
Elma, Washington Stake
Wish for stakes to have MLS remote access

No idea how PC Anywhere works now. I haven't used it in a long time. Back in the days of DOS it used to be via dial-up.avskip wrote:Will PC Anywhere work through the Church firewalls or will they (firewalls) require special setups?

I have no idea if that would allow access to clerk machines. Given that FH and MSR are two different departments, I'd lean toward "no".
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.
So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

Only 12 hours? Is that all? [grin]
Please know that I am with you and firmly on your side. It would be wonderful to be able to remotely access the administrative computers.
For our stake, I once calculated that in a real no kidding emergency, I could leave home on Tuesday morning, drive and work 10 hours a day, spend an hour at each computer, and be home by Friday night. Five years ago when we installed new computers and MLS in our stake, my stake president told me he would release me if I did it that way.
So, we spent five weeks upgrading our stake. The help desk was downright apoplectic. Those were wonderful days.
(And, for those who put up with me at the time, I truly mean that.)

It can access via the Internet, but off-the-wall ports have to be enabled on firewalls last I knew. I'm not sure if it ever went Plug 'n Pray or not.RussellHltn wrote:No idea how PC Anywhere works now. I haven't used it in a long time. Back in the days of DOS it used to be via dial-up.
Can't hurt to ask. I'm glad to know that about the FHC's though. I'll give them a call tomorrow to see what I'm told.RussellHltn wrote:"Family history center directors and stake technology specialists can have access to use the Remote Control tool to support their centers.
