Do Not Contact

I am wondering if it Church would be willing to consider creating some way that clerks can flag a person as "Do Not Contact." Specifically those who are confirmed to be within the unit boundaries but have expressed this wish. I am aware that their contact information can be hidden from the general membership population. However leaders, unknowingly, may try to make contact. I am thinking of a flag which would allow some kind of indicator to appear on all reports (attendance, visiting and home teaching, etc) to help the leaders out. Right now we sometimes try to delete contact information, or rely on past knowledge or past secretary records which may or may not be accurate. Would be helpful to have something more official to click on. Not saying, under direction of the Spirit, that they won't be recontacted later on in life.

This has been discussed before. I'd suggest reading: At this point I think the best you can hope for is additional guidance on handing those members.

There was an official notice/message from Church headquarters on September 20th, 2009, that stated: "Members that no longer wish to be contacted by the Church need to have their wants addressed with sensitivity and care. These cases should be reviewed on an individual basis by the local priesthood leader and a plan made without making adjustments to the membership record."

Scriptural reference is Moroni 6:4 -- “And after they had been received unto baptism, and were wrought upon and cleansed by the power of the Holy Ghost, they were numbered among the people of the church of Christ; and their names were taken, that they might be remembered and nourished by the good word of God” .

That notice has not been rescinded or modified. I don't see how any kind of annotation or flag can be made without making adjustments to the membership record. We all know this is a sensitive and tricky issue to manage and requires regular review of individual cases. As this topic has been discussed in a number of threads before and since that headquarters notice in 2009 you can search the forum and see some of the solutions offered that are not contrary to the notice.

I shudder at the thought of coding someone "do not contact." Why? Read my story about when my family and myself were coded "Do Not Contact" by mistake, in this post: Do Not contact?
