budget category questions

We are trying to clean up our act for 2015. . .
Somehow we have gotten and have actively used subcategories under Budget Allocations for Scouting Boy Scouts and Scouting Cub Scouts, see attached.

After researching and educating ourselves, we know this is a no no. But we also learned that the main budget subcategories are canned and can't be altered or added to. We think what we need to do is perhaps add a cub scout category under Primary and a boy scout category under Young Men. Does that make sense?

Also, having separate
Administration
Curriculum
Distribution Center Charges
seems too fine grained for our purposes, could we ignore the last two and just track everything under Administration? My only worry about that is that Distribution Center Charges probably get billed automatically by MLS to that subcategory. . .

Thanks.

Yes, that's what we did (well, actually we added Deacon, Teacher and Priest subcategories under Young Men and used them for all expenses for each of these groups--but same idea).

We never used the Curriculum category. There is no reason you have to use all of the categories that are automatically added if they aren't appropriate for the way your ward or stake functions.

It is true that anything billed to the ward by a distribution center gets charged to Distribution Center Charges category but we would always re-categorize those expenses to another more appropriate category. This would reset the balance in this category to zero. So we never assigned a budget amount to Distribution Center Charges.
