MLS access policies

#1

Post by cwoolf »

I have a high councilor that has responsibility for missionary work that would like access to MLS so that he can run reports related to his calling and pull reports on ward missionaries and also new members in the wards. So far in my calling I have only granted access to the stake presidency, including the executive secretary and assistant stake clerks. I have done some research on policies related to granting access to others, but cannot find any. Are there any policies or is it under the direction of the Stake President? Thanks for your help.

The policy is found in Maintain MLS User Access, where we read: "At the stake level, the stake presidency, stake executive secretary, and stake clerk and assistant stake clerks may be given access to MLS."

Since there is no mention of any other callings, my interpretation is that this is intended to be a complete list for stake MLS. But of course, as with most policy matters, the stake president should be aware of what is written and then can make the final decision, unless overridden by a higher authority.

In my experience as a stake clerk, I find that the number of reports needed by people with other callings is relatively few, and it is much easier for me and for them if I just create the reports and deliver them, rather than teaching them how to create the reports in MLS. And MLS is not long for this world anyway, since all those functions are moving to Leader and Clerk Resources. So even if your stake president chose to let a high councilor have access to MLS, that would be a relatively short-term solution.

Unless something changes, access to LCR will be by calling and not up to local leader discression.
