I have members that are in the standard "Directory" and in the lds tools but they are not on the "Abbreviated" list. How do I fix this?

You have posted in an MLS forum but then mention LDS Tools. What is displayed in an MLS printed directory and what is available through the on-line Directory and the directory in LDS Tools may be, and most likely will be, different. The difference is that the directory from MLS does not incorporate the privacy, or visibility, settings implemented in the on-line Directory. LDS Tools uses data from the on-line Directory. As such it will reflect the privacy settings of the on-line Directory. In the on-line Directory members can set and change the household privacy setting and individual privacy setting. Those households not displaying in the on-line Directory and in LDS Tools most likely have changed their privacy setting to 'Private - Leadership Only'.

If you are an administrator (bishopric member, clerk, or assistant clerk membership) you can go to the on-line Directory and change the visibility (privacy) settings to less restrictive settings. Note, however, the preference for privacy members have made should not be changed without their permission.

It sounds like you're asking the opposite question from the one that jdlessley just answered. In general, MLS shows every member and as he noted, does not respect privacy settings. So MLS will tend to show more members than the Directory (the Directory and LDS Tools tend to show the same people because they respect the same privacy settings).

The one clear case I know of where people appear on the Directory but not in MLS is the case of nonmember spouses. The very existence of a nonmember spouse on a member's individual record will cause that nonmember spouse to appear in the Directory, but such a person will not appear in MLS lists (unless you take the extra step of creating a nonmember record in MLS, which is only local to MLS and has no effect on online systems). So that's the first place I would look.

But in any case, it will require some research and analysis on your part -- you need to figure out what is different about those people that might make them appear in one place and not the other. If you notice specific things and come up with a theory, you could post that here to get validation or alternate theories.
