Priesthood line

#1

Post by jmears »

Hello all and thanks for any help. I am a newbie Ward Clerk, Less than 1 week. I had been the asst. ward clerk-membership for nearly 1 year before this calling. I have a question that I can't answer or find.

A convert member ( i.e John) was ordained an Elder about 10 years ago. He was ordained by his brother ( i.e Joe) who was a convert also. John wants to trace his lineage but has come into a snag. He knows his brother Joe ordained him but wants to follow Joe's lineage back. Here is where the problem comes. Joe was ordained an Elder by an ex-Father in law, Joe fell from Grace and is no longer an Active member and has been released from his sealing with his former wife thru the First Presidency. The former wife will not provide John with any information on her Father's lineage so John can trace his back. How can I help John locate his lineage or the appropriate steps needed to get it done? John does not know the MRN of the former wife of his brother as they reside in a different Stake. He however does know the MRN and birthdate of the son of Joe and former wife but not what Stake he is in for contact information. Bottom line the former family of Joe is not cooperative to John in tracing his lineage.

Thanks for any help

Jeff

There was some new information in the June 2013 Ensign on how to do this.

Here is the link.

Things have changed in the past 5 years. There's now a website for that: https://pb.lds.org/pbrequest/?lang=eng#/
