I have been a Ward Clerk many years and am pretty familiar with MLS. But now that I am Stake Clerk I have a few questions (Prior Stake Clerk didn't know).
1) Is MLS 2.8.3 the same software for both Ward & Stake, or is the Stake version a different. As a Stake user I can only change things that are in reference to the Stake. I don't get options to change things that would normally get change at a Ward level, and that only makes sense, don't need to have conflicting databases.
2) I want to download the latest 2.8.3 so I can put in on my laptop so I can have it handy at meetings. I have gone out to Member & Leader Services web page at www.lds.org/mls/login and it won't let me log in using my Stake Unit Number and password. These numbers work fine when ordered supplies. Am I doing something wrong???
Thanks for any input.

1. The same MLS software is used for both wards and stakes. It just operates quite differently when it is configured for use in a stake.RedRover wrote:I have been a Ward Clerk many years and am pretty familiar with MLS. 2. The password for downloading MLS is not the same as for ldscatalog.com. Your stake technology specialist should know the MLS download password. It was included in the Desktop 5.5 instructions, and has been sent a couple of other ways to the STS as well over the past few years.

Received upgrade to version 2.8.3. By 20 June, every time we'd attempt to backup database, MLS would freeze. Within Windows Task Manager there would appear 2 processes, both listed as MLS 2.8.3, and both listed as "Not Responding".
One process displayed a Java Icon, the other, a Blue Dot. Selecting on the process next to Blue Dot and requesting "Go To Process", highlighted Image Name, "explorer.exe". Doing same thing to other process associated with Java Icon, highlighted Image Name, "javaw.exe".
To correct this, we did a clean re-install by downloading from Church web site. We've had no more problems during attempts to "backup database".
We do have Image Name, "javaw.exe", appearing after cold starting PC. Then another Image Name, "javaw.exe", appears after loading MLS -- two separate "javaw.exe" processes running at same time. I wonder why?

Probably a different version/copy of Java running. MLS installs it's own copy of Java in a non-standard place.H. Forth wrote:We do have Image Name, "javaw.exe", appearing after cold starting PC.
