No, you cannot merge a husband and wife. Two donor records, each of which is linked to a membership record, cannot be merged.

The wiki is not clear about this, but you cannot merge two donors in which both donors are linked to membership records. Merging records is only possible if one or both donor records are not linked to a membership record.
