A new convert was adopted and doesn't know where she was born. She knows the town and state where she was adopted but the adoption was closed and she's never known her birth place. For the purposes of her new record will her adoption location suffice as her birth place?

Even if she was adopted, she should still have a birth certificate. That birth certificate should have something for a birth place (as directed by the court). If it doesn't, then I'd go with the adoption location.

I'd check with CHQ first.

Most certainly she has needed a birth certificate by now, hasn't she? If not, she should get one.

Around here, they are required for school registration, obtaining a drivers license, and other important things.

Birth Place is not a required field in MLS, nor is it required on the record. If the person does not know her birth place, leave it blank until the information becomes available. I wouldn't use the adoption place as the birth place.

In my last membership audit, 6 records came up for not having birth place on the record. In addition, when ever I do an membership validation that too comes up. So I was told if we can not find out, put unknown down as the Birthplace.
