TIP: MLS Username "stakeadmin"

Just a little tip.

I've had a few units remove my "admin" account. This often happened when a new clerk is called and he attempts to do some "spring cleanup" of other users on the system.

I have since changed my username on all computers throughout the stake to be "stakeadmin" instead of just "admin" so that other clerks know the origination of where the username came from.

It has been over a year now and my account no longer gets deleted.

I have told all the other clerks I have trained to never delete/remove user accounts. Instead just uncheck all their privileges to deactivate their access. That way if an account ever needs to be reactivated, it is easy to do.

That's certainly reasonable advice. However, in the case that Thomas was referring to, it's important that wards refraim from doing anything to the stake administrative account for MLS -- it should not be deleted, and it also must retain administrative privileges.

Be aware that per the using MLS instructions we are required to have logins based on individual names --- not generic names.

There is more than one login. The first is for the computer and the second is for MLS. The computer has an account for the StakeAdmin (stake clerk or STS). MLS should have logins for the stake clerks. None of these should ever be removed be ward leadership (bishopric, clerks or any other leaders).

There was a rather long thread regarding this topic, where many opinions were given. I tend to read the instructions as implying (but I must admit that they never clearly state) that MLS logins should be based on names, not callings. But there are others equally convinced that MLS usernames based on callings are the way to go and are permitted. I even asked Clerk Support this question, and the person I talked to said there was no policy -- it's a local decision.

I would agree that logins should be based on names, however new clerks rarely know my name. They usually know the names of people in their ward and the stake clerk. Since I am the technology clerk, if I had my name on there, a new clerk would clean house and my name would be gone since I'm not in the ward and they wouldn't be familiar with my name.

Other than the stakeadmin, all other user names are based on names.

Some on here are saying that the ward clerks do not know their name. I sent all the clerks and bishops in my stake a letter introducing myself and giving them all my contact information (phone numbers and emails addresses). Each time I update their computers or load new security signatures, I leave a note by the computer and on the bishop's desk tellling them what I have done and giving them the contact info again in case they have any questions. Nobody has ever deleted my "Stake" login.

Welcome to the forum, Foothill, and thanks for your suggestion. The STS does this very thing in our stake as well. It alerts us "end users" to be particularly aware of anything unusual happing with the system, since we use it far more often than he does. He appreciates any feedback we provide him, even an occasional, "All is well."
