MLS Other callings messed up

Postby craiggsmith » Thu Mar 08, 2012 10:22 pm

I apologize for starting a new thread but I'm getting desperate! In the stake MLS many of the Other callings are messed up. For example, all the YW Referees now show as Ward Choristers, and all the Asst. Sports Directors now show as Scout Committee Chairman. CDOL is correct. I requested unit refresh data and that didn't change anything. I also tried deleting the udx folder which I believe will refresh the list of standard callings but that didn't change anything either.

When the new lds.org went live I got rid of most custom callings. We now have hundreds, and many are at the ward level. I guess all the ward custom callings get imported into the stake MLS?

When I try to add a position in the Other Callings section nothing shows up in the list of callings to select from. I thought most of the stake callings we had before were standard callings, not just the presidencies. But perhaps my memory is incorrect; are there very many standard stake callings besides the organization leaders?

I also notice that when I list the custom positions many are listed twice. The ones under the organizations are wrong but correct ones are listed under a "Stake Miscellaneous" organization.

Has anyone else seen anything like this? Is there any other way to wipe all this out and reload from CDOL? CDOL lists all these other callings as custom callings as well, but at least they are correct.

It seems that our custom callings database was overwritten in part by ward custom calling info -- I see that some of the other callings, like building scheduler, are no longer in the other callings list in MLS.

I do see a few standard callings (and all the custom callings) when I try to add someone in the general other callings area, just not within organization (because apparently none are tied to an organization). I really thought in the past there were standard callings such as sports director, camp director, etc.

One more twist -- one of the callings listed in the stake YW section in CDOL is actually a ward calling. It's not in MLS that way, so kind of the opposite problem.

I only have two suggestions:

1) Do a MLS backup and then restore. That forces MLS to rebuild the indexes. You may want to make a separate OS-level backup of the units folder - just in case the whole think scrambles.

2) Call Local Unit Support. It sounds like you have a corrupted database.

In response to RussellHltn's comment "you have a corrupted database".....

Craiggsmith is not the only one. I have the same issue in our stake MLS....a gazillion callings that have nothing to do with stake callings. Our positions were overwritten resulting in deleting some callings, changing callings, and adding callings that have nothing to do with stake callings. I first found out we had the problem when our Stake Audit Committee Chairman (Stake President 2nd Councilor) couldn't access LUFUS to process audits. When I went to look at our data base I saw he was no longer listed as the Chairman which also deleted him from that position in CDOL. Additionally our two Audit Committee members were now listed as Ward Weblos leaders. On top of that we lost one councilor in the stake Relief Society Presidency and two councilors in the stake Primary Presidency.

I put everyone back into MLS in their proper callings and so far it shows okay in CDOL. However I still have a gazillion (well almost) callings that are ward level callings in my stake callings list. I talked to Salt Lake LUS yesterday about it and they weren't sure what my issue was but suggested I just let it go with the comment "if it isn't broke, don't fix it". However it appears that it isn't just broke in my database but is showing up in other stake computers as well. My guess is other stake computers might have the same problem since this is showing up in at least two different stakes. Something rotton in Denmark perhaps?

Well, I'm glad for my sake that someone else has this problem! I tried the backup/restore and that didn't help. So I called the help desk again and got someone willing to send it on to tier 2 support. I sent her a detailed email of the problems along with screenshots. Pretty disturbed by the response you got from the help desk. I'd try again, or send an email, although yesterday I sent an email and still haven't gotten a response.

My other thought is to wipe out MLS and reinstall from scratch and request a full setup file, but that takes a while.

One thing I noticed: people with the same calling in CDOL are mapped to the same incorrect calling in MLS, and all building scheduler's callings are messed up. Also, we have a ward YW camp director in CDOL as the stake camp director but not in MLS.

Another file came down today and fixed the callings and got them in sync with CDOL!

I still had the hundreds of ward custom callings which I deleted manually. (I'll have to get on the wards to clean up their data.) During that process I deleted some of the stake ones as well and had to add them back. It was strange -- the custom callings that were associated with the Stake Miscellaneous organization warned me that someone was assigned to the calling, but the ones associated with the YW and RS didn't.

I'm surprised there aren't more callings available for these organizations, such as sports director or camp director. There is a stake sports official and specialist in the Stake Miscellaneous area, but it seems better to put them within the organization they are serving in. I'm also surprised they don't have a stake emergency preparedness specialist or something like that.

How were you able to delete the custom ward callings from the MLS list of callings? I am assuming we are talking about the long list of callings to choose from under Stake Miscellaneous "Add Position" List that show up when you click on Add Position. Most of my Stake Leadership positions are now correct (because I manually changed them when I first noticed this problem). However I still have a couple of oddities such as two Stake YW Camp directors who show as Ward Missionary and Assistant Scoutmaster under the Stake Young Women "Other Callings".

If you indeed were able to delete all the ward callings that show up in the Miscellaneous calling list I would dearly love to know how you did it so I can clean up my MLS.

And I wonder why it is just our two units are having this issue or if others just haven't noticed it yet?

Thanks
Jim

We have been successful in deleting custom callings that were duplicated by the standard callings, but the problem we have as was expressed earlier is that the MLS standard callings has not kept up with the official callings. For example is the standard calling of a family history name extraction worker. My understanding is that we no longer have extraction workers but we have now callings as family history indexers besides the volunteer indexing people. What do we need to do to get headquarters to update these standard callings?

Yes, that's the list. I'm not in front of it now, but there is another screen where you can do that; I think it's on the Other Callings screen, if you click on the Custom Callings option on the left. It should list just the callings without any names associated with them.

Have you tried a unit refresh?

Yes, very strange.

I actually still have a problem. CDOL didn't take the deletes, only the adds. So now I have lots of duplicates. So I guess I'll have to try it all again.
