Has anyone reviewed the recent letter announcing classic sites being discontinued? - Now that the site is available again from leader.lds.org I was reviewing

Subject: Discontinuation of Stake and Ward Websites on Classic.LDS.org for 13 Units

Please be advised that the stake and ward websites on classic.lds.org will be turned off for the following 13 stakes or districts on Friday, August 5, 2011.

Barrigada Guam Stake
Buenos Aires Argentina Belgrano Stake
Curitiba Brazil Stake
Frankfurt Germany Stake
Honshu Japan Military District
Kaiserslautern Germany Military Stake
Okinawa Japan Military District
Santiago Chile Vicuna Mackenna Stake
Sao Bernardo Brazil Stake
Sao Carlos Brazil Stake
Sao Jose dos Pinhais Brazil Stake
Sao Paulo Brazil North Stake
Seoul Korea Military District

This is part of the phasing out of classic.lds.org. The ward and stake websites on
classic.lds.org are being replaced by tools such as an online calendar and directory on the new
LDS.org.

The new online calendar and directory are available for units in your area today and can be
found at lds.org/church-calendar and lds.org/directory. These new tools do not display a
member’s personal information to others unless the member chooses to share it. Personal
information is never visible to those who are not members or to Church members outside the
stake or district.

Units that are using the calendar on classic.lds.org should import their events into the new
online calendar as soon as possible. Instructions for doing so are found at the following URL:
https://tech.lds.org/ldshelp/index.php5 ... e_Calendar
Please share this information with stake and ward website administrators and stake
technology specialists.

Questions about the phasing out of classic.lds.org may be directed to Chad Fullmer at
FullmerCB@ldschurch.org or 801-240-8399.

Kind of reminds me of when the moved us from MIS/FIS to MLS, it was only half baked and took several years to get back to comparable functionality.

I've been waiting for "News and Information" to migrate to the new "tools". If the old LUWS is disappearing already, does that mean "News and Information" is not ever going to migrate?

No, it doesn't mean that. We've been told specifically that News and Information will migrate.

Unless you have information to the contrary, it's possible that the 13 stakes mentioned never used the Classic LUWS, or used it minimally, or have already been contacted and agreed that they don't need LUWS. I would be careful about drawing conclusions from such a small sample size.

I noticed the list didn't contain any stakes in North America. I'm wondering if they were removed to comply with local legal requirements. At any rate, it seems questionable to speculate on how that applies to to US/Canada.
