Unit map data

Postby tjp43-p40 » Tue Sep 18, 2007 5:44 pm

I have an interesting problem. I'm the Stake Technology Specialist, so everyone is looking to me for an answer. One of our branches has some incorrect information somewhere that is pulling up the wrong address when someone tries to map the chapel location on the website. The address listed is correct, but the star on the map is incorrect. Essentially, the address is X North Main Street, but the map is showing X South Main Street. I went to Mapquest.com and entered X North Main Street and it pulled up the correct location, so I think the problem is in the information being sent to Mapquest.

The branch president called LUWS and was told to call us in the stake. None of the clerks have any idea where that data comes from or how to change it. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

Hey, at least they have you in on a street. According to the map, one of our buildings is in a pond!

If you look at the URL for "Map" you may see the lat/lon for the "star". Some of that data is incorrect. I've sent an email and seen it bounce between a few individuals, but it's still not fixed.

Thanks for the reminder.

New mapping apps are being developed at Church HQ that should allow local leaders to manually override/correct the positioning of buildings (and for ward members to correct positioning of their homes) as needed

FANTASTIC!!!!

No, really. I don't know if you have seen the posts on mapping here at the forum, but you should know that this is the single most active topic here.

Please let those involved know about the information here. If you can get betas or limited access rollouts to people that have expressed interest here that would be great too.

Thanks
Barrie

I hope the new applications also give opportunity to correct driving directions. Driving directions to the meetinghouse in Dayton, Oregon say to turn from Hwy 18 onto 8th St., even though that location is an overpass situation with no ramps or other means to get a vehicle from Hwy 18 to 8th St. On foot, you'd have to use a grappling hook and climbing ropes, or take a good hike through the brush. Correction requests have been sent to Church headquarters and to the mapping business involved to no avail.
