I thought I would offer a suggestion...when a calendar event is created or approved I wanted to see if we could be given the ability to delay the sending of an email. The reason I ask, is that someone submits an event a couple weeks or months in advance, it asks if we want to send an email and to which users. Then it sends the email...it would be nice if we could set the email to go out say the week before it is scheduled.

This would also stop users from getting a dozen emails when submissions are approved because the emails could be set to go out later at intervals but before the event.

I hope this makes sense....

I would also suggest maybe when an admin adds a bunch of events or approves a bunch of events it could store all those events in a temp table and send it out in a list in one email instead of separate emails.

That is just typing out loud...what do you think?

Wow! Your ward and stake must actually post to the calendar! Mine neither posts much nor reads the calendar. However, I prefer receiving separate emails of events posted to the calendar because I sort email into separate email folders for each family member. Some messages get copied and sent to two email folders because they apply to two of us. Maybe having an option of a digest mode would be helpful for some. Another way that the program could group postings is to send a particular type in a digest form, such as SA or YW updates. For this to work, the person posting the event would need to designate the group of recipients. (I.e.: those who tickmarked wanting to receive that category of events)

One more thing, for what it's worth: I'd much rather have advance notification than last minute notification. Perhaps a reminder system set of options similar to that on Yahoo Groups would be helpful to accomplish both advance notification and a reminder.

While we are on the subject of notifications, I'm going to list some
really crazy ideas I've had that I'm sure will never be implemented
in the LUWS, because the development teams are just too busy doing
"higher priority" projects.

Expanded Categories:
I'm thinking mainly a Cub Scouts option to begin with, so
people who have girls in Primary don't get Cub Scouts
notifications all the time because they chose "Primary" notifications.
Of course this also means that the "They can always delete it" philosophy
has got to go. If someone only wants to recieve "Elders Quorum" notifications,
the admin has to be vigilant that submitted calendar items for example Primary don't
set the notify to "All".

Add-your-Own Categories:
If expanded categories for notifications are allowed, why not
take it one step further, and let the Admin create the new Categories.
For example, my ward has 2 Elders Quorums. Iit sure would be nice
if I could add expanded categories for each Quorum, but not every
ward would need that.

Notifications Intelligence:
I expect computers to be smart -- too much Science Fiction reading, I imagine.
One thought would be that when someone registers to the website, it
does a quick lookup of their record, and auto-checks the notifications for
their status. For example, if they are a YSA and Female, it auto selects the
Relief Society and Young Single Adult Boxes for notifications. They still
will be able to uncheck the boxes if they so desire, of course. This would
also extend to adults with Primary-age children to have "Primary" notifications
pre-selected.


Finally, I just want to second the idea of allowing members to choose when
they want to recieve their notifications - whether it is immediately on item
approval, or x number of days before the event.

Even though it seems that we are not paying any attention to LUWS, the fact that we have a place for you all to share your ideas is a big step. I love reading your ideas and find them very valuable. As we plan the new version, we can turn to these forums for a treasure of great ideas, suggestions, and bugs. Keep 'em coming!
