Make it easier to update bookmarks

Discussions about the Notes and Journal tool on LDS.org. This includes the Study Toolbar as well as the scriptures and other content on LDS.org that is integrated with Notes and Journal.

Make it easier to update bookmarks

Here's an enhancement request for lds.org....

It is so nice and easy to update a bookmark in the Gospel Library app, it would be awesome if the same could be done for managing bookmarks on lds.org. I'd love to just be able to click on a submenu for an already existing bookmark and be able to update it to point to the current location.

My 9 year old recently started using her laptop during our family scripture study and is frustrated about having to create a new bookmark at the end of each of our study sessions. I've felt the same frustration when I want to continue my own study or reading of the scriptures on a computer. (it really should be just as easy as the mobile app)

We can discuss this in the forum - but that is all we can do. To get your input to those who have the decision authority we recommend using the feedback link found at the bottom of the particular LDS.org page.

Do any product managers (or whatever they're called) for lds.org monitor these forums?

We have not had any indications (posts) that anyone with the authority to make changes visit the forums. There are a few church employees, some of who are programmers, that visit and most of them are identifiable by their employee badge below their name. They, however, do not have any authority to make site or program changes.

In Notes, bookmarks are links to your favorite articles, so the feature aligns more with social bookmarking tools (such as Delicious) and with your browser's Favorites feature. In the apps, however, bookmarks are more like placeholders to remind yourself where you left off reading, much as you would use a bookmark in a paper book - they aren't intended to hold dozens of links.

However, online Notes currently saves items by last accessed date. So, if you sign in to LDS.org, click on My Ward and Stake, and choose Notes, it will take you to your personal Notes page. From there, you can click on the work Bookmark in the left hand column, and the last Bookmark you made should be at the top of the middle column. Click on it, then click on the hyperlink in the right hand column. This should bring you to the last item that you bookmarked.

It sounds like they're intermixing the functionality of favorites and bookmarks.
The fact that they sync bookmarks from the mobile ldstools apps to the website adds to the confusion. They make it so easy to update a bookmark in the mobile app but so difficult to do the same on the website.

Again, they have different functions. Some web browsers have a bookmarks bar. Notes is web based.

Well, terminology aside...
The Gospel Library (which I erroneously called ldstools in my last post) calls them bookmarks and they're synced with the website. I would just love to have the same 'update bookmark' functionality for those bookmarks on the website that they have in the Gospel Library.

There seem to be many threads on this topic in the forum for more than two years. Many people are instructed to log in Feedback, and it seems like they do. Yet here we are and we STILL can't update a bookmark from one chapter to another using the website. Is anyone listening to the Feedback? Come on, people.

You do realize, do you not, that we don't know if anyone is listening to the feedback, that we have no control over that, and that you're not dealing with a for-profit corporation? Further, have you pondered who it is that makes the decisions of how the church spends its money? (And that in order to make this change, the church has to decide to allocate time and money to it?)

It's not like it's that hard to manually solve this problem.

(Not saying I don't think the change would be nice; just saying it doesn't seem worthy of this much negative energy.)
