Music and Intellectual Property Question

Postby hyperdriveguy » Sun Jun 28, 2015 7:00 pm

I am about to develop an application that downloads music from lds.org onto the end-user's device.

Does this conflict with the Intellectual Property of the church?

If it's downloading music that does not have a download link, I'd think it would be questionable.

I would recommend contacting the copyright office – there's a link at the bottom of LDS.org that gives their contact info.

I don't see the link for the copyright office...

The app uses links to lds.org to obtain the music. It's like going to the browser and selecting download, but without opening the browser.

It's not a link to the copyright office but a link to the the Rights and Use Information which includes the contact information for the copyright office.

It's at the very bottom:
Rights and Use Information (Updated 2/21/2012)

I'm not a lawyer, nor can I speak for lds.org, but if it's just doing what the user can do for themselves, I wouldn't think there would be a problem. But it may depend on the details - such as charging/profiting from the ability to do that.

Sorry, I was on my way out the door so I didn't have time to look up the exact link. Glad to help!
